Here are the things I have learned from three weeks of yoga classes on a Monday evening:
- Bring a bottle of water next time. You meant to do that last week, and forgot until you got there and saw someone with one this week. You get more thirsty than you think.
- Don't wear the green leggings again. They're in danger of falling down.
- You really like yoga even though you worry it's taking an approach to life with a long, complex history and making it into appropriative exercise for white people.
- It is okay that you're the only person in the class who can't do a shoulder stand. It's okay that you could do one last week and not this week. You have been reassured that the version you can do (basically, a bridge up against a wall) is just as good. It would help if you believed this but it's something that you know is true and that this is what you'd say to anyone else in your (ha) position.
