I've been surprised to find applicant presentations quite common. I never heard of them years ago in the UK, nor while living in the US, but since looking for work back in the UK a high fraction of prospective employers seemed to expect one - including my current employer who mentioned the requirement less than 24h before the formal interview (I think it fell through their cracks beforehand).
